A Personal Story - The Truth Behind Secure, High Paying Jobs

My older sister is smart woman.

Scratch that, she is PIERCINGLY intelligent.

Her mind is like a steel trap.

Out of high school, she got accepted into most of the Ivy League universities, but opted to go to UC Berkeley, which was in state, and would be easier on my parents in terms of tuition.

I remember going to her college graduation and being bewildered by her GPA, which was something like 3.999999737803909030309.

I clearly recall her being pissed off that she had gotten an “A-” ONCE…

There weren’t that many Summa Cum Laude students, but she was one of them. Standing there looking unhappy about her GPA.

A few months after graduating college she scored a 99.6 percentile on her LSAT’s and turned down Harvard, Stanford, and Georgetown law schools to go to Yale… because it was #1.

I remember her casually tossing her Harvard acceptance letter into the closet after finding out that she had been accepted.

After graduating from Yale, she got recruited to a huge and prestigious law firm in Boston, where she made a cushy 6 figure salary, without bonuses, starting her first year.

(Why Boston instead of coming back to California?

Because she met her husband at Yale, who was attending Yale Medical School.

Now get this: My brother in law had gone to the University of Pennsylvania for undergraduate studies, Yale Medical School, and was his doing his residency at a small local school in Boston you may have heard of… HARVARD.

Yes, they are a true power couple…)

My sister worked her tail off at that firm.

80 hour weeks were the norm.

My brother in law was killing himself as a resident, where the program dictates that residents be on-call 24 hours a day.

Life was a constant, caffeine filled, stress factory.

A few years later, when my brother in law had graduated from the residency program, they moved to Seattle where he went into private practice.

A beautiful story of hard work, determination, and security, right?

Wrong.

Here’s the truth.

The years of hard work took a serious toll on my sister’s body and health.

Chronic body aches, pains, and fatigue make it impossible for her to take up another rigorous full time position as an attorney at a law firm.

Not until she gets better.

And the politics involved with working at a private practice, answering to the partners, and not being in full control of his own destiny, has my brother in law stressed out and constantly looking for better opportunities.

Even if my sister was healthy, and my brother in law found a practice he really felt comfortable with, all they have are high paying JOBS!

Now, don’t get me wrong.

This is my sister we are talking about and I love her to death.

But let’s take the following into perspective.

Here are two people who came from the BEST schools and excelled at EVERYTHING they ever did academically.

Really the cream of the crop in terms how society tells you to live your life.

What better job security is there than being a doctor or a lawyer? It’s every parent’s dream for their children to have a “Dr.” in front of their name, or a “J.D.” after their name.

And yet my sister and brother in law are not happy professionally.

Sure, they make a pretty good living.

But it comes at a steep price.

Because they are still bound to the chains and rules of a job.

And the truth is, right now, my sister would gladly trade in all her accolades and fancy schooling for her HEALTH.

Which she ruined because of a JOB.

Yes I know, this isn’t how ALL doctors and lawyers end up, but the truth is, if you have to answer to a superior, if your choices aren’t your own, and you are trading your hours for dollars, you ARE still in a job.

No matter how many fancy titles and letters you have before or after your name.

So my question to you is: Do you think that $150,000 worth of Ivy League education will buy you job security?

It won’t.

It’s only by creating what James Brausch calls a “Freedom Business” can you truly be the master of your own destiny.

To be free to do what you were placed on Earth to do.

I believe that financial freedom is where life STARTS.

It’s not the ultimate destination.

Which is why I’m working towards that goal.

So I can teach people like my sister, my brother in law, and others who deserve to be financially free.

Why are YOU in this?
