I wanted to chart some statistics and information that will hopefully be interesting and helpful to you.
Article marketing is one of the most proven methods of generating traffic to your website, so I have been working on this for the past couple of weeks.
First, I bought Charlie Page’s Directory of Ezines which provided me with about 200 unique ezines to submit to. It’s $197, but worth it if you want to get a head start on your external ezine list.
Regarding the tool I use to submit articles, I use the Artemis Pro program, so I followed the guidelines that this particular software needed.
I created my 20 resource boxes (which is a brief description of the author as well as a link to your website), an email template (which goes to the ezine editor), my external list, and 3 different varieties of my article (the reasons for this are described in the program and I won’t get into them here).
The main challenge I encountered was an SMTP problem.
Your SMTP server is your outbound email port, and if you use a mainstream Internet Service like I do, there are going to be restrictions placed on how many emails you can send at a time, or how many you can send in a given amount of time.
Either way, it’s a pain to deal with.
So to overcome this challenge I took Jim Sansi’s advice, as well as Robert Phillips, who seemed to have solved this problem.
They suggest using a service called PostCast, which is free to download, and basically turns your computer into your SMTP server, and Artemis Pro then points to your computer as opposed to your regular SMTP.
When I got everything set up through PostCast (which was pretty easy) I got 4 SMTP choices. Since I’m not very techie, I just chose the one that looked the most complicated and input that into the Artemis Pro software.
I got all the rest of my ducks in a row and pressed submit… and LO AND BEHOLD Artemis Pro started processing. Hooray!
But I wasn’t happy for long.
First of all, I seeded two of my own email addresses in the external list (suggested by Kenton Newby) to get some unique versions of my article for future content. And I’m not sure how long it takes for Artemis Pro to submit to all the email addresses, but it’s been about 24 hours and I still haven’t received any “submissions.”
So I will have to ask around a bit to get answers there. And of course I have to try the other SMTP choices PostCast gave me.
And it might not hurt to contact PostCast either, and ask if they have any suggestions regarding this issue. It can’t be the first time they’ve encountered a question like mine.
The other issue which is puzzling is that Artemis Pro doesn’t seem to tell you if there are any errors with your submission.
Meaning, I don’t know which email addresses are still working, or even if my SMTP choice was correct.
Here is something else I am considering.
On Robert Phillips suggestion, I might try SSH Tunneling. That seems to be the other alternative to PostCast.
So, that’s where I stand at the moment. I know that Article Marketing is powerful, but I need to get everything running on all cylinders before seeing this power for myself.
Will post again soon on this topic with updates.

James,
To find the SMTP server in PostCast, click on “Tools”, then “Settings” (or press CTR+T on your keyboard). The SMTP server is listed at the top under “Host name.”
Robert,
Thanks so much for your comment. Here’s the problem I’m facing specifically.
After my initial submission, I realized that my 200 external list emails were sitting in my PostCast Outbox, indicating that I did something wrong.
There are 4 SMTP choices under the Host Name tab, and after taking turns chossing each and pressing Start in PostCast, the emails all ended up having error messages anyway.
I even typed in “localhost” thinking that may be the solution after reading the PostCast website a bit, but to no avail.
I’m not sure if the DNS Server address has anything to do with it, or if I have to put in the correct SMTP into Artemis Pro (I only put 1 of the four in so far) but either way, I’ll figure this out.
I got your products today though! Thanks so much man. And sorry for the info dump. Just wanted to elaborate on what was going on! And thanks again for the comment.
James
That’s really good information. I’ve been trying to get solid advice about article marketing for ages, but this is the first thing I’ve read that really enlightens me. Thanks so much.
Richard,
Thank you so much for the kind words.
Interestingly, I just recently discovered the next step in this Article Marketing series. I actually figured out how to solve the problems I talk about in the post you just read.

Thanks again for stopping by,

The great thing about the companies that are providing the reverse phone lookup service is that they provide a full gambit of information to you. Not only the identity of the owner of the cellular owner but, they also can now give information for residential lines, business lines, as well as fax lines. You also have access to criminal background checks and other information and this is all in addition to the reverse cell phone directory that they give you access to.
James, this sounds very frustrating. I’m new to article submission and online marketing in general. I’ve been looking for some article submission software but all seem to have mixed reviews. Have you tried the Article Marketer service? I’ve heard some glowing things and also some bad things such as poor customer service, long waits for approval. I’ll be looking forward to hearing how this all works out for you. Best of luck.
Hi Best GTP Sites,
I’ve never tried Article Marketer service
before.
Actually, I did figure out how to submit articles successfully!
I talk about it here:

Thanks for the comment, and please come back soon.
James
