Do You Practice Gun to the Head Marketing?

This week’s video features the late, great, Gary Halbert.

If you’ve been in direct marketing for even a week, you’ve heard of Gary.

He was an eccentric genius, and even though he was the self proclaimed “World’s Greatest Copywriter,” there were actually few who would dispute that.

In this classic video clip, Gary talks about one of the most powerful mindsets you can before sitting down to write copy for your website, autoresponders, or any of your sales communication.

He calls it “gun to the head marketing.” And the premise is, how would you write your copy if you had a GUN to your head, and you had to write a letter that got the recipient to respond to you, or you’d be killed?

Now that’s a powerful motivator.

But that’s the mindset that Gary insisted that all great copywriters MUST have.

As if every word, every sentence, every nuance must tickle the emotions of your prospects, otherwise your business is DEAD.

The first time Gary figured out how to get himself into this frame mind, he created the most successful direct mail letter of all time, the coat of arms letter.

It was 361 words, typed on 1 page, and it was mailed over a billion times.

There are some other absolute GEMS of marketing information in this less than five minute video, and I won’t spoil it for you by writing about it.

Go ahead and take a look.
