In this short video, Mike Filsaime talks about a book called Good to Great by Jim Collins.
In this book, Collins talks about something called the “Hedgehog Concept” that Mike attributes a lot of his online success to.
The concept is, when you are evaluating a career or business opportunity, it should fall within the intersection of 3 specific circles.
Circle #1 - What you feel you can be the very best in the world at
Otherwise, why bother trying to pursue it?
Circle #2 - What you are deeply passionate about
Because there will be days where you don’t feel like working. Your passion will pull you through.
Circle #3 - An understanding of the metrics of the marketplace.
So you can see where the money is being made, and how to leverage this information.
When you can pursue an opportunity that converges within all three of these circles, it fits into your Hedgehog Concept, and therefore you will have the best chances of success with it.
If you decide to pursue an opportunity that doesn’t have all three qualities, you may find yourself in a rough spot.
Because if you are the best in the world at something, but hate the industry you work in, you will be unhappy.
If you are passionate about something, but you’re no good at it, you won’t be successful.
If you understand the metrics of a market but don’t have the passion or ability for it, you won’t go anywhere.
This is a pretty interesting and insightful video clip, and I just ordered Good to Great on Amazon as a result!
Enjoy.
