The Seduction Game… of Marketing

Let me get your quick opinion on something…

What do you think this 11 part formula represents?

1. Select a Target

2. Approach and Open

3. Demonstrate Value

4. Disarm the Obstacles

5. Isolate the Target

6. Create an Emotional Connection

7. Extract to a Seduction Location

8. Pump Buying Temperature

9. Make a Physical Connection

10. Blast Last Minute Resistance

11. Manage Expectations

So, what do you think it is?

The latest Internet Marketing formula for success online? An excerpt from a big time Internet Marketer’s home study course?

Wrong.

This is the seduction formula pulled from the infamous book “The Game” by Neil Strauss.

And if you noticed what I noticed, you’ll see that for some reason, the formula for attracting women is almost exactly the same formula for sales!

If you don’t know what “The Game” is, the book chronicles Neil Strauss’ journey from a dateless, clueless loser (what’s known as an “AFC” - Average Frustrated Chump) into a ladies man and womanizer (PUA - Pick Up Artist).

The book uncovers the secret society of “pickup artists” and their secret tactics for attracting women. According to Strauss, “game”, or being good with women is actually something that can be learned and improved upon, in a linear fashion, like a martial art or a video game.

Like any market that is fanatical about what they do, the seduction market has its own language, its own culture, and is actually know as the “Community” to insiders.

But again, the fascinating part about the book is how much salesmanship goes into the “seduction” of women.

I don’t think it’s an accident that you are selecting a target (target market), “demonstrating higher value” (USP anyone?), disarming obstacles (overcoming objections), creating an emotional connection (emotional direct response copywriting), pumping buying temperature (translating features into benefits), and blasting last minute resistance (testimonials, stick letters, etc…).

It’s what sales people have been doing for ages.

The funny thing is, I’m not the first person to make this sales/seduction connection.

When I was at the 2006 Kennedy/Glazer Information Marketing Summit, Neil Strauss was at the event, having been invited by Dan Kennedy personally, and on stage, Dan told everyone that “The Game” was one of the best SALES books he had ever read. Never mind the seduction part.

When attracting a potential mate, we are DEFINITELY selling ourselves.

We are selling our future worth, our attractiveness, and our compatibility. We are demonstrating why WE are the best choice out of so many other “similar businesses” out there!

And since I am a firm believer that what we do as Internet Marketers is simply salesmanship online, what does this mean for us?

That we’re Internet Marketing “Pickup Artists?” :)

That salesmanship contains a certain element of seduction?

That salesmanship is also the art of attraction?

Maybe.

But here’s the most intriguing part of all…

When I mentioned this to some of the best married salesmen I know, they told me that they inherently used their sales skills to attract their current wives! They had been using “The Game” way before Neil Strauss came out with his “tell-all” book!

The point is, like I talked about in my very first post… salesmanship is life. If you don’t think you’re selling all the time, you’re wrong.

And so you have two choices about this fact.

You can either sell well, or sell poorly.

    Hi Ideal4Investors,

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for your comment.

It truly is interesting that the principles of “direct marketing” as we know it are applicable regardless of the medium.

From print, audio, TV, and now online.

Hope to talk to you again soon,

    James
